CFO, Outliers LLC 2021 – Present, Pittsburgh, PA

I joined Outliers in January 2021 and have worked on two engagements in 2021. I interacted with clients as a Fractional CFO on acquisitions and to lead their teams on specific projects.

SR VP of Finance – Patron Technology
2017 – 2020, Pittsburgh, PA

Parent company of Private Equity funded roll up entity that developed an international entertainment event company. Offerings include Online Ticketing, Event Intelligence, Fan Engagement and Event Logistics. Patron’s 2nd acquisition was ShowClix in July 2017.

Responsible to integrate the companies upon acquisition. We acquired 9 companies in 2 years that sold complimentary software products. Managed the team that was responsible for the Accounting and Finance tasks for 4 of the owned companies. Led individual Controllers to prepare Financial Statements develop Internal Controls for the remaining 5 entities.

Implemented cost savings and strategy synergies by consolidating vendors and moving operations to single platforms that included Insurance, Payroll, 401K, T&E expenses, and Sales data bases. Managed the Risk department on high liability events where the exposure exceeded $100M and were able to limit fraud to less than 1% of charge volume. Managed the annual Audit and Tax process for the nine combined entities that included purchase accounting after acquisition.

CFO, ShowClix
2012 – 2017, Pittsburgh, PA

Venture Capital funded online ticketing platform serving major entertainment venues, promoters, and event planners. The company grew from 10 employees and $8M in Gross Revenue to 60 employees and $300M in Gross Revenue. Managed a team of 6 people that handled Finance and HR. Interacted with other C -Level leaders and Directors to lead the growth of the company that led to a profitable exit for the investors. Company acquired by Patron Technology in July, 2017.

Worked with the CEO to secure $5M in VC equity funding, secured a $1.5M credit line from a venture bank that provided the company with growth capital. Developed all financial models that presented financial and customer data to potential acquirers. Worked extensively with an outside investment bank to create the financial presentation of the investor deck.

Developed and managed the company’s risk mitigation process. The system monitors, identifies, and prevents credit card fraud during client ticket sales. I implemented an underwriting process to screen clients who requested advance payment on their sales. The percentage of sales volume lost to credit card fraud was reduced from 2% to .01%.

Managed the Audit and Tax process resulting in 6 consecutive clean audits. Worked directly with the CTO on a two PCI Compliance audit that delivered a successful Report on Compliance (ROC).

Developed and managed the Human Resource department that included the payroll function, the on-boarding employee package, and the employee review process. We expanded benefit offerings to include a 401k plan, life, and disability insurances.

CEO, MJR Financial Consulting
2007 – 2021 Pittsburgh, PA

Owned and operated a consultancy practice providing Fractional CFO services to mid- market and early-stage companies. On most engagements I manage the Finance area of the company and provide strategic advice to the CEO or owner of the company.

Have worked with a mid-market industrial coatings company over 12 years managing their Finance area. The company has experienced strong growth in their chemical division and divested their coatings division.

Represented an independent sales organization in the electronic payments industry on a $17 million sales transaction. Led the process to secure a buyer, negotiated the sale terms and contract issues, and provided due diligence materials.

2005 – 2007 Pittsburgh, PA

One of the founders of this startup company in the electronic payments industry that grew rapidly through acquisitions and organic growth. The company’s 8,000 merchants generated a monthly run rate of $4.6 million in revenue and 250K in EBITDA.

Led the financial area that included the acquisition and integration of five companies and two merchant portfolios. Developed a projection model to plan the company’s growth strategy. I worked with the CEO to secure $4.6 million in equity capital and $4.7 million in debt financing.

I was engaged as a consultant then joined this startup company in the electronic payments industry. The company was sold to an industry consolidator in 2005
